Vernon Chorn
An actuary with more than 25 years’ experience in the industry, Vernon Chorn is the CEO of Unity Health. He has played an active role in low-cost primary healthcare insurance to those unable to afford medical scheme coverage. He continues to work closely with the National Treasury, the Council for Medical Schemes and other parts of government to develop the most effective programmes and tackle the challenges of providing quality healthcare to the majority of South Africans unable to afford medical scheme coverage.
Michael Emery
Michael Emery completed his matric at Capricorn High school in Polokwane and went on to study for a business degree with majors in Economics and Business Economics. He has worked with major corporate entities such as Total Oil and Honeywell. In 2006, he joined ER24 and continued to spend 12 years in the sales and marketing department in the pre-hospital environment. In 2018, he joined Ambledown Gap Cover and Unity Health as their marketing executive, and enjoys taking on any challenge that his job can give him.
Arnold Meiring
Arnold is a business development manager tasked with ensuring that brokers are trained to market Unity Health correctly as well as to assist should there be queries. He also liaises with members. He holds two diplomas from Damelin College (Public Relations and Business Communication, and Advanced Project Management) as well as a certificate in nutrition from Plaskett Nutrition among others. His career spans 20 years in sales in the healthcare industry. He is also a proud alumnus of Paarl Boys’ High School.
Shivani Ranchord
Shivani Ranchod is a healthcare actuary and part-time academic. She is the co-founder and CEO of Percept, a multi-disciplinary consulting firm, and the co-founder of Alignd, a provider of value-based contracting solutions. She is an outspoken advocate of change in the South African health system, having worked across both the public and private sectors and the supply and demand sides of the system. She has held various leadership positions including Head of Actuarial Science at UCT. She is also appointed to the Government Technical Advisory Centre as a long-term advisor to the South African government.
